Geneology Info

This site will eventually be a repository for genealogical information about the various Lynch families. Stay tuned for more.

Here's what I've been able to piece together. This is not absolute fact since the records are not always accurate but this is the best I have come up with so far.

Key: b. means born d. means died. If there isn't a date associated with it, then it's not known.

James Vincent Lynch b. 11-1821 Ireland d. 1907 Ft. Dodge, IA.

Married Sarah Strain b. 1-9-1831 Scotland d. 6-17-1910 Ft. Dodge, IA.

They married in Lanarkshire, Scotland 9-9-1850.

Children:

  1. Thomas B 1864 Philadelphia,
  2. Mary B 12 Feb 1858 Pottsville, Pennsylvania, D 15 Sep 1905 Fort Dodge, IA
  3. James A. 1856 PA,
  4. Ellen 1852 Scotland,
  5. Bernard 1856 PA,
  6. Patrick B 25 Sep 1859 Pottsville, Pennsylvania D 30 Oct 1932 Chicago, Illinois
  7. William 1862 PA,
  8. Esther 1866 PA,
  9. John 1868,
  10. Daniel 1870 PA.

Emigrated to Scranton, PA in 1856. Moved to Wahkonsa, IA. in 1869.

In 1910 census Sarah was living with William and Esther (Lynch) Carpenter, she was 80.

Joseph one of James V.'s brothers and other siblings went to Australia. Joseph married Bridget Keefe in Australia.

The Keefe's in Ontario went to Iowa about the same time. We think that was the same family that Joseph married into. James A. Lynch and James Keefe were next door neighbors in Wahkonsa, IA.

James A. Lynch then married Bridget Keefe probably since they lived next door to each other. Most likely that was still In Wahkonsa. I can't find Wahkonsa on the map, so I think it disappeared. There is a Wahkonsa township in Webster county near Ft Dodge.

Here's a bit more:

Sara Ann married Leo Orville Hamersly b. 1894 d. 1966.

I recall someone a while back saying that the reason it was so hard to chase down who was who in the family was that there were too many Jims. We only have two families traced so far, James and Patrick and both had boys named James. It's conceivable that more of that generation had kids named Jim.

Jim - I am not researching this family, but I can tell you the following details based on the Milton Sunnyside Cemetery inscription booklet published by the VB County Genealogical Society in 2003:

On the same stone in the SE side of the cemetery:

BLANCHARD, Grethel G. (1909 - 1984)
BLANCHARD, Maud M. (1885 - 1971)

Several stones away:

BLANCHARD, William D. (1887 - 1940)

The only Sherwood surname burials in this cemetery are Warren D. and Ruth R. Sherwood (both passed away in the early 1970's).

I do not see any Ranabarger surnames. There are some Rinaberger's - but no Philip.

Hopefully some of this helped.
